Fun at the Wargames Holiday Centre

I know , I know it seems a bit of a busman's holiday but...the 'gang' from the shed (
see the garage gamer blog) went to the Wargames Holiday Centre and had a fantastic time. Of course I could tell you some of the conversation that occured but the rule of 'what's said in the Shed stays in the Shed' applies to WHC trips too. Suffice to say, that despite a weekly Napoleonic 'fix', the WHC bashes are a truly fantastic experience and one I wish I could do far more often....If only the world of work and various other things did not impinge so...

For now all I will say is Rock Lobster, Flow diagrams and Do the Hucklebuck....I wish I could expand on that but the rules of the Shed prevent it....

What does it cost and where are these held

The megagames holidays are week long events, the cost for 2014 will be £400.

The price of the holiday covers accommodation and meals from the Saturday to the following Saturday morning inclusive, meals being breakfast lunch, and a three course evening meal. If you wish to arrive a day earlier of stay an extra couple of days there is a daily surcharge which is currently £40.

The dates for the game are as follows

Arrive Saturday 19th Jan 2013

Play commences on Sunday 20th through to Friday 25th.

Depart hotel Saturday 26th Jan

On the wargames front figures, terrain dice and a copy of rules system are included in the price. All you have to bring is your beer money ;)

Combat Command Rules system

We use our own rules system which is D10 based. This evolved from the Spearhead system which we used for the first two games, but it soon became apparent that Spearhead worked well for up to a Division a side, but these games saw Corps and Army sized formations on one table (and in some games 12 tables were in play), so we begin to write a system that could cope with these numbers, allowed for some reconnaissance of the battle field and with the integration of higher level air and naval assets as scenario’s dictated. It’s not a finished product yet, but each year it has been rigorously tested. New ideas often arise out of each megagame, this year was no exception.
